Our History

Background and Introduction

Tanzania Mentors Action (TMA) is a non-governmental consultancy firm based in Dodoma with a sub-office in Dar es Salaam. TMA was founded and registered in 2013 under the Companies Act, Chapter 212 of the laws of Tanzania as a company without shares limited by guarantee. Currently TMA has established networks in 93 Local Government Authorities (LGAs) in 13 regions of Tanzania Mainland in; Dodoma, Iringa, Morogoro, Kagera, Kigoma, Njombe, Mbeya, Rukwa, Mwanza, Shinyanga, Mara, Mtwara and Lindi.

TMA was established by 18 mentors who were previously employed as consultants to implement WAJIBIKA (a Kiswahili word meaning 'BE ACCOUNTABLE') Project. WAJIBIKA was a 3 years USAID funded project with a purpose of Strengthening programmatic and fiscal accountability in the government including Local Government Authorities. One of the intervenmtions employed by WAJIBIKA project was mentorship whereby the project hired vast experienced mentors for LGAs. After the end of the project, the demand for continued services of WAJIBIKA project was very vivid among the communities that had benefited from the project. The Mentors therefore found it inevitable to continue offering the service under the TMA establishment to support improvement of service delivery across sectors including water, sanitation, health, agriculture, education and financial management as well as planning.

TMA envisions a society that upholds excellence in service delivery in all spheres of life and strives to accomplish its mission of empowering leaders and service providers to delivery quality services by promoting accontability and demand driven services through mentorship.

TMA is witnessing quick growth in terms of the increasing number of members, consulting engagements awarded to the firm and new clients who keep discovering it as a potential and strong partner to work with. the firm has a total number of 31 staff.
